Roger SmithRoger Smith is an Executive/Leadership Coach and OD Specialist for ELP. Roger is a graduate of the University of Denver where he earned his bachelor’s degree and doctorate in Organizational Communication in their highly regarded School of Communication Studies. He’s a leading expert in team dynamics in complex, technical environments using emotional intelligence and psychological safety as the guide. His vast OD portfolio includes talent reviews, executive succession planning and coaching, HR consolidations during mergers and acquisitions, leadership academy design and implementation and competency integration across large, multifacility healthcare systems and high-tech environments.

Roger understands the issues facing many executives in large organizations as a former VP of HR for a healthcare system based in Denver with 15,000 employees, then building and running the Leadership and Organizational Development function for a 220,000 employee, 185 hospital healthcare system based in Nashville, TN. There he conceptualized, designed, developed, and launched the Physician Leadership Academy, a year-long program for 60 Chief Medical Officers that led to statistically significant improvements in business acumen, executive presence, sense of urgency, and leadership skills.

He is master certified in BlueEQ Emotional Intelligence and DDI Targeted Selection and certified in Crucial Conversations, Crucial Accountability and Influencer, Everything DiSC, Five Dysfunctions of a Team, and DDI’s Interaction Management and Mid-Level Leader program. Roger also chaired the governor appointed Colorado Workforce Development Council and served on the Training and Education Advisory Council of the President’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board in Washington, DC.

When he is not coaching and counselling executives, he enjoys kayaking, mountain biking. and golf and considers himself the quintessential, armchair behavioural economist, examining economic trends and buying behaviour that fuels the US economy and financial markets.
